Ireland Name Development Squads
Ireland have named 36 players in their National Performace and Emerging Player squads ahead of a busy winter schedule.
Having already qualified for the ICC World Cup in 2015, the senior team heads to the United Arab Emirates to attempt to qualify for the ICC World Twenty20 2014 and play in the ICC Intercontinental Cup final against Afghanistan in December.
The Under-19 World Cup will also be held in the UAE in January and an announcement of an 'A' team tour is expected shortly. Three pace bowlers will head to Australia to work with Craig McDermott and plans are at an advanced stage for the National Academy, ready for its first intake of young players next month.
The two squads are made of 13 players who are established Ireland internationals and 23 who are pushing for selection having impressed in domestic, representative or youth cricket, including the relaunched RSA Inter-Provincial Series this year.
"The squads show just how much quality and depth there is now in Irish cricket," said coach Phil Simmons.
"There's a great balance of youth and experience in there, and the players know there are more opportunities than ever before.
"There are some new faces in the Emerging Players squad, with James Cameron-Dow and Simranjit Singh adding to the slow bowling options. The initiative to send the young pace guys to Australia this winter is a great one and I'm certain will bring dividends.
"We're looking for the emerging players to challenge the established core guys. The incentive of playing in the 2015 World Cup has really galvanised everyone in Irish cricket, and it's the perfect platform to take the sport in the country to an even higher level.
"While these players will form the basis of our planning for the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, I'd like to stress the door is always open for others to force their way in."
