India fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been drafted as a replacement for opening batsman Murali Vijay in the Kings XI Punjab squad for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sharma initially went unsold in the auction in February after he had a base price of INR two crore and was released by Rising Pune Supergiant, who he represented in the previous edition.
This will be the 28-year-old's fifth franchise in the history of the tournament and will join the likes of Varun Aaron, Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Shardul Thakur and Matt Henry in a seam dominated attack.
Kings XI Punjab's head of operations Virender Sehwag is confident that Sharma's inclusion will benefit the club.
"I share a strong bond with Ishant Sharma as he played under my captaincy in the Ranji Trophy and later in the India team.
"His addition will most definitely strengthen our squad," said Sehwag.
The Delhi fast bowler had a disappointing outing in the 2016 season where he picked three wickets from four matches at an economy of close to 10.
Kings XI Punjab will begin their campaign against Rising Pune Supergiant in their newly adopted home Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
