Jade Dernbach Given Contract Extension At Surrey

Surrey have rewarded fast bowler Jade Dernbach for his excellent start to the 2008 season with a two-year extension to his contract, which was due to expire at the end of this year.

The deal keeps the South African-born player at the club until 2010.

Dernbach took career-best figures of six for 72 in the recent LV County Championship match against Somerset and has developed into one of Surrey's premier One Day bowler.

Surrey Cricket Manager Alan Butcher said: “Jade’s contract was up at the end of this season and I said that I would be prepared to re-negotiate if he proved to me that his attitude, commitment and everything that goes with being a professional cricketer was right. He has done that to my satisfaction, therefore we offered him a new contract from now, and his performance against Somerset has fully justified that.”

Butcher added: “He has been knocking on the door all season and could have played at anytime. He has come on leaps and bounds and fully deserves his contract.”
