Jamaica opened their WICB Caribbean T20 account with a thumping nine-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands.

Xavier Marshall smashed an unbeaten 62 as they made light work of a victory target of 125 to cruise home in the 18th over of the second innings.

Marshall hit six fours and two sixes in his 57-ball innings and the only man to be dismissed was Chris Gayle, who was run out after he had hit 21 in 24 balls.

Marlon Samuels was unbeaten on 18 when the winning runs were hit.

Krishmar Santokie had earlier taken three for 20 as the Leewards were held to 124 for seven with Gayle returning two for 19 and there was a wicket apiece for Andre Russell and Nikita Miller.

Tonito Willett hit an aggressive 37 to top score but the Islanders never had enough runs on the board to challenge Jamaica, one of the pre-tournament favourites.
