Jason Gillespie Joins Glamorgan As Overseas Player

Glamorgan have announced that Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie will join them for the 2008 season as their overseas player.

Gillespie has taken 259 wickets in 71 Tests for Australia and has played for Yorkshire in the last two seasons. He last played for his country in 2006, when he scored an unbeaten 201 against Bangladesh.

"Jason is a proven performer at international level and is just the sort of experienced bowler we were looking for to spearhead our attack," cricket manager Matthew Maynard told the Welsh county's official Web site (www.glamorgancricket.com).

Gillespie is the latest signing for Glamorgan, after former Warwickshire bowler Adam Shantry, Yorkshire opener Matthew Wood and Middlesex spinner Jamie Dalrymple joined, although they lost the services of England-capped bowler Simon Jones, who opted to move to Worcestershire in the close season.

He is the latest Australian to play for the Welsh county, after fellow internationals Michael Kasprowicz, Matthew Elliot and Jimmy Maher enjoyed spells in recent seasons.
