Explosive opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya has been dropped from the Sri Lankan One Day team which will play three matches in the West Indies next month while off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will be rested.

The selectors, already focusing on the 2011 World Cup, are looking to give younger players a chance after Jayasuriya endured a run of poor form.

Upul Tharanga and Mahela Udawatte will take their places at the top of the order as Dilruwan Perera, who played in the CB Series, has also been dropped.

Muralitharan, 35, looks set to be rested from One Day tournaments as Sri Lanka look to manage his workload ahead of the 2011 World Cup in the subcontinent.

"Murali is likely to play just the main ODI tournaments which means that we can keep him fit and also groom his successors," captain Mahela Jayawardene explained.

"The selectors are keen for him to continue playing until the 2011 World Cup, assuming he maintains his fitness and form."

Named in his place is leg-spinner Malinga Bandara and all-rounder Ajantha Mendis, an off-spinner.

Missing Farveez Maharoof and Lasith Malinga through injury, all-rounder Kaushalya Weereratne, who last played in 2003, and uncapped left-armer Thilan Thushara are also picked.

The three-match series begins in Port of Spain on April 10th.

Sri Lanka: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Chaminda Vaas, Chamara Silva, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Kapugedera, Malinga Bandara, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis, Jehan Mubarak, Ishara Amerasinghe, Mahela Udawatte, Thilan Thushara
