Mahela Jayawardene stroked an unbeaten half-century to guide Sri Lanka to a nine-wicket win over England in the one-off Twenty20 International at Bristol.
England reached 136 for nine and with Jayawardene in top form scoring 72 not out in 57 balls Sri Lanka reached their target in 17.2 overs.
He hit eight fours and a six and although Sanath Jayasuriya fell for just eight, Sri Lanka were always in control, Kumar Sangakkara scoring an unbeaten 43.
England fell away badly after Kevin Pietersen (41) and Eoin Morgan (47) had taken them to 95 for one in the 12th over.
Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Malinga and Sanath Jayasuriya all took two wickets to hasten England's demise.
Sri Lanka's batsmen then finished off the job to hand Sri Lanka their first international win of the tour and a winning start as captain for Thilina Kandamby.
