Jayawardene To Captain Sri Lanka In Australia

Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as captain of Sri Lanka for their tour of Australia

Mahela Jayawardene will begin a second term as captain of Sri Lanka during the upcoming One-Day International tri-series in Australia.

Jayawardene captained his country between 2006 and 2009 and has been appointed to lead again after Tillakaratne Dilshan's resignation.

The squad for the Commonwealth Bank Series, which includes India and gets underway on 5th February, sees pace bowlers Chanaka Welagedara and Farveez Maharoof recalled.

Neither man has featured in the ODI side since 2010 but Welagedara has been a key member of the attack in Sri Lanka's Test side.

Angelo Mathews has been named as Jayawardene's vice-captain while Dilshan has been retained in the touring party despite a poor run of form during his time as captain.

The two players to make way for Maharoof and Welagedara are all-rounder Kosala Kulasekara and spinner Ajantha Mendis.

Sri Lanka will play Australia and India four times each in a bid to reach a best-of-three series of finals in early March.
