New Zealand have been dealt a blow ahead of their tour of India after Daniel Vettori was ruled out of the Test leg with a groin injury. He has been replaced in the squad by Jeetan Patel, while fellow spinner Tarun Nethula retains his place. The other change from the squad that toured the West Indies is the axing of batsman Dean Brownlie in favour of all-rounder James Franklin.

National selection manager, Kim Littlejohn said of the squad selected, "Unfortunately Daniel Vettori won't recover in time for the Test series but his injury has created an opportunity for Jeetan Patel to come back into the side. Jeetan has been in great from for Warwickshire (he has taken 38 first-class wickets at an average of 23.65) and deserves his opportunity.

"James Franklin has been brought into the squad to bolster the batting. He brings a lot of experience and knowledge of playing in Indian conditions which will be invaluable. Dean Brownlie misses out on selection. We continue to see him as player of the future but at this stage we feel he needs to works on parts of his game. There's no doubt he will work hard to regain selection."

The first of two Tests begins in Hyderabad on 23rd August, with the second beginning on 31st August in Bangalore. The teams then play two Twenty20 Internationals before heading to the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.

New Zealand Test squad: Ross Taylor (captain), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Daniel Flynn, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Tarun Nethula, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Kruger van Wyk (Wicket-keeper), Neil Wagner, BJ Watling (wicket-keeper), Kane Williamson.

Yuvraj Singh was denied a fairytale comeback by the narrowest of margins as New Zealand won the second T20 International in Chennai by a single run. Yuvraj was out for 34 off 26 balls, leaving Rohit Sharma needing to hit six off the final two balls to complete the win. He could only manage a pair of twos as James Franklin held his nerve to end with figures of two for 26 from his four overs.
Yuvraj Singh's international cricketing comeback has been delayed by the weather after India's opening match in their two-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand was abandoned without a ball bowled due to heavy rain. The match in Visakhapatnam - which was hosting its maiden T20 International - was abandoned without even the toss taking place as the heavy rain which had been a feature for much of the week in the lead-up to the match failed to relent.
India capitalised on the excellent start given to them by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to chase down the 261 runs that they needed for victory in the second Test against New Zealand in Bangalore. Jeetan Patel kept the visitors in the hunt with three wickets, but India's sixth-wicket pair of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli added an unbroken 94 to ease them home by five wickets.
New Zealand's middle-order all made starts without going on to make a telling contribution, but it was enough to set up what will an intriguing fourth innings run chase for India in the second Test in Bangalore. Tim Southee had bowled an inspired new-ball spell in the morning to earn New Zealand a slender 12-run first innings lead, which by stumps they had extended to 244 for the loss of nine second innings wickets.
Half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina were leading India's strong reply to New Zealand when play closed on day two of the second Test in Bangalore. Kohli was unbeaten on 93 and Raina made 55 as India closed on 283 for five, just 82 runs short of New Zealand's first innings score of 365.
A terrific counter-attacking century from New Zealand captain Ross Taylor was enough to give his side the edge at the end of the first day of the second Test against India in Bangalore. Taylor's innings of 113 off only 127 balls ensured that New Zealand scored at over four an over during a day that was brought to a premature conclusion by bad light and drizzle and allowed them to finish on 328 for six.
