Following a meeting of Lancashire’s General Committee last week, the Club is delighted to announce that Jim Cumbes has agreed to remain in the position of Chief Executive on an extended basis after he reaches official retirement age in May 2009.

It was identified that there is a clear need for continuity with the stadium re-development programme, which Jim has helped to lead in conjunction with the Steering Group over the last two years. There is still significant work to be done to achieve our ambition of once again staging an Ashes Test match in a re-developed Old Trafford in 2013 and it is undoubtedly a major plus for the Club to have secured Jim’s unique knowledge and experience to help the Club achieve its goals.

Additionally, great emphasis has been given by the LCCC Committee on ensuring that their structure, and that of the Executive team, has been significantly modernised to ensure it is consistent with the increasingly demanding needs and requirements of running the Club. The retention of Jim as Chief Executive completes the key management team of Commercial Director (Geoff Durbin), Finance & Operations Director (Lee Morgan) and Director of Cricket (Mike Watkinson) who are together looking forward to ensuring a successful and sustainable future for the Red Rose Club, both on and off the field.

Jim Cumbes said: “Initially, the offer from Committee asking me to stay took me by surprise, but after some consideration I was delighted to accept. The club is moving into exciting times, following the complete change of structure in the committee and the executive, not to mention the redevelopment of the stadium. Having been involved with this from the start, it made the decision to stay on very easy.”
