After taking 37 wickets to help Australia win The Ashes against England, Mitchell Johnson is to take a break and miss the first One-Day International in Melbourne.
Cricket Australia will also look to rest other players that were involved in the 5-0 series in over England and Johnson will join up with the squad ahead of the second match in Brisbane on 17th January.
"Mitch has had a brilliant summer with the Test side and while he is a crucial member of the ODI squad it is important that he has a bit of a break now," National Selection Panel Chairman John Inverarity said.
"The NSP will be looking to provide a break, also, for most of the players in the ODI Squad who played in the Tests against England."
The players involved in the ODI squad will not be available to play for their KFC Big Bash Twenty20 teams from 9th January while Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon (from 10th January), Ryan Harris (from 18th January) and Peter Siddle (from 22nd January) will also be rested following The Ashes.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground hosts the first of five ODIs on Sunday 12th January.
