Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson will return home to rest ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, missing the three-match series in South Africa.
All-rounder Moises Henriques will remain in South Africa and join the Twenty20 squad as Johnson's replacement.
"Mitch has had a very long summer and we think he will benefit from returning home for a few days of rest with his family where he can freshen up," coach Darren Lehmann said.
"He will link back up with the squad in Bangladesh ahead the ICC World Twenty20," he added.
Australia play South Africa in three Twenty20 Internationals on 9th, 12th and 14th March. The first two matches will be played in Port Elizabeth and Durban before the final match at Centurion.
After the series, both sides head to Bangladesh for the ICC World Twenty20, where Australia begin their campaign against Pakistan on 23rd March.
Johnson took 37 wickets during the Ashes, leading Australia to a 5-0 series win and followed that up with 22 wickets in the three Tests against South Africa.
Australia won the series 2-1.
