Johnston, Mooney & O'Brien Supply Cricket Ireland
Cricket Ireland unveiled Ireland’s oldest bakery, Johnston Mooney & O’Brien as official baked goods supplier to the Irish Cricket team.
Welcoming the announcement were Irish cricket stars Trent Johnston, John Mooney and Kevin O’Brien, who, as well as being widely regarded as three of Ireland’s finest cricketers, also share a namesake with the famous Irish brand.
Speaking at North County Cricket Club, former Irish captain Trent Johnston said: “It is great to have the support of Johnston Mooney & O’Brien – a name that is familiar in my home and many other homes around the country. They have a great tradition in Ireland and I’m delighted to be welcoming them into the Irish cricket family.”
Warren Deutrom, CEO of Cricket Ireland, continued: “Irish cricket is on the up and up thanks to some super performances by the team at recent tournaments that captured the imagination of people at home and abroad. For Cricket Ireland, it is great to have the support of an Irish company like Johnston Mooney & O’Brien, who share as rich a tradition and heritage in this country as Irish cricket.”
John Rooney, Managing Director at Johnston Mooney & O’Brien, said: “It gives me great pleasure to be here with Ireland’s top cricketers welcoming this new sponsorship. Johnston Mooney & O’Brien share many values and traditions with Cricket Ireland – not least our namesake! We look forward to showing the team our unwavering support throughout the 2012 season and wish them every success going forward.”
Johnston Mooney & O’Brien has been baking products of exceptional quality since 1835. With a baking tradition rich in quality, craftsmanship and heritage, Johnston Mooney & O’Brien has been serving up fresh and tasty products to the Irish public for almost 180 years. Sharing an equally rich history, however, is Ireland’s cricketing tradition, with the history of the game in Ireland dating back as far as 1792.
While Johnston Mooney & O’Brien already has an enviable reputation as Ireland’s oldest bakery, the Irish cricket team is continuing to build on their growing profile. At last year’s Cricket World Cup, Ireland’s cricketers stunned the cricketing fraternity when they defeated England in a thrilling encounter that is now widely regarded as one of the greatest comebacks in cricketing history. Kevin O’Brien, meanwhile, will be long remembered for making cricketing history when he struck the fastest World Cup century on record during this game!
For Trent Johnston, John Mooney and O’Brien, sights are now firmly set on securing a place at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In the eight-team qualifying league, the Irish team is currently four wins from four and sit top of the league table, with the top two teams automatically qualifying for Australia in 2015. They will be hoping this success continues on their upcoming tour to Kenya, where their schedule also includes T20 World Cup qualifiers.
