South Africa speedster Kagiso Rabada has taken the top position in the International Cricket Council Rankings for bowlers following his stellar performance in the first Test against India in Cape Town.
Rabada troubled the Indian batsmen with pace and bounce and claimed five wickets in the game that has seen him pip England's James Anderson to take the first position. He collected five points for his performance and now has 888 points - one more than Anderson.
"It’s special to be ranked as the No.1 Test bowler in the world‚ it is a surreal feeling‚" Rabada said.
"It’s what you dream of achieving when you start playing the game.
"Cricket is ultimately a team sport and I am thankful for the support from my team mates.
"It’s a great start to the year personally and for us as a team.
"Hopefully we can continue putting in winning performances."
Meanwhile, Vernon Philander, who claimed a man of the match performance in South Africa's 72-run win over India with a nine-wicket haul has broke into top 20 and is now positioned 12th.
The second Test will be played between 13th and 17th January at SuperSport Park in Centurion with the Proteas having a 1-0 lead.
