Kallis And Amla Impress In Pakistan Tour Opener

Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla hit half-centuries as a full-strength South African side moved to a strong position of 294 for 5 at stumps on the opening day of their tour match against a Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI, led by Taufeeq Umar.

Rizwan Ahmed took three wickets, including Graeme Smith, who fell two runs before Herschelle Gibbs as the South Africans slipped to 58 for 2 before Amla (87) and Kallis (73) added 130 for the third wicket.

They were removed within three runs of each other before a solid knock of 48 not out from AB De Villiers helped keep the South Africans in the ascendency.

The impressive Rizwan finished the day with figures of three for 90.

South Africa play two tests and five one-day internationals against Pakistan during a month-long tour.
