All-rounder Jacques Kallis is poised to play his first One-Day International since February 2012 after he was named in South Africa's squad to take on Pakistan.
The veteran of 321 ODIs returns to the squad and Twenty20 captain Faf du Plessis makes way for him ahead of the three-match series which begins on 24th November in Cape Town.
In another boost for South Africa, Graeme Smith has been passed fit to play having been forced to return home from the United Arab Emirates early with post-trauma concussion.
"As well as Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell have done as emerging all-rounders, it is very welcome news to have Jacques back as our premium all-rounder," Cricket South Africa selection convener Andrew Hudson said.
"There is no substitute for the experience he brings to the game. We have a number of young batting talents in the squad such as Quinton de Kock and David Miller and the more experience they have around them, the better it will be for their development.
"Graeme Smith also returns to the squad after making a complete recovery from his injury.
"We have dropped Robbie Peterson out of the squad as Imran Tahir is in outstanding form and we are unlikely to use more than one specialist spinner in a home series. He will be able to gain valuable time in the middle playing in the Sunfoil Series."
The series also includes matches in Port Elizabeth (27th November) and Centurion (30th November).
South Africa beat Pakistan 4-1 in the UAE earlier this month.
South Africa ODI squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Vernon Philander, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe
