Kallis Chosen To Lead South Africa In Ireland

All-rounder Jacques Kallis will lead South Africa in their upcoming tour of Ireland, where they will play one-day internationals against both Ireland and India starting later this month.

Graeme Smith, who recently underwent surgery on his knee, and Shaun Pollock, currently in action in the Afro-Asia Cup will not make the trip as the South African selectors look to give youth a chance.

Recalled are JP Duminy, Morné Van Wyk and Dale Steyn while Vernon Philander and Thandi Tshabalala receive call ups for the first time.

"The selectors want to use this tour as an opportunity to introduce some new players into the Proteas one-day squad," Haroon Lorgat, national convenor of selectors said.

"Following the World Cup and the timing of this tour it is an ideal time to develop new talent as we prepare for the future.

"The potential and performances of these players were carefully monitored in the past by the selection panel and now is the right time to introduce them into the national squad,`` he said.

South Africa play Ireland on June 24th before three games against India on June 26th, June 29th and July 1st.

Squad: Jacques Kallis (captain), Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Thandi Tshabalala, Morné van Wyk.
