Kaneria Backs Malik Appointment

Essex’s Danish Kaneria has offered his support to recently-appointed Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik.

The Pakistani leg-spinner told the Essex CCC website (www.essexcricket.org.uk) that he is backing Malik to revive the national side’s fortunes.

“I would like to congratulate Shoaib Malik on becoming captain of the Pakistan team. My whole-hearted support is with him and I wish him the best of luck and hope that he leads the cricket team in the right way. Having played together for a long time we know each other very well as cricketers and I hope to see him again soon when I return to play for Pakistan. My full support is with him during his captaincy and playing career.

“My first priority is with the Pakistan cricket team – I was born there, I live there and I love Pakistan – and whenever they need me I will go back to play for them.”

26-year-old Kaneria has enjoyed a fine start to his third season with Essex, taking 25 wickets @ 23.12 in three LV County Championship matches and two wickets @ 16.00 with an economy rate of 3.25 in two Friends Provident Trophy games.
