Leicestershire junior cricket team Kibworth Cricket Club has won the prize of a lifetime, the chance to attend a training session with the England cricket team.

As part of the grassroots cricket campaign launched by premium home appliance brand AEG, Kibworth Cricket Club competed with 40 grassroots cricket teams all over the UK to attain the most votes to win the dream prize.

They asked for the support of their local community, friends and family to successfully build up enough votes and have been crowned the 2012 winning team.

On Tuesday 3 July, the team will travel to Edgbaston Cricket Ground for the exclusive chance to watch the England cricket team train, meet the players and experience one-to-one coaching with Paul Nixon, picking up and taking away skills from cricket professionals at the top of their game.

40 grassroots cricket teams won AEG’s Kit & Laundry Package, which includes 12 bespoke Canterbury Cricket Kits and a top-of-the-range AEG washing machine in time for the start of the 2012 cricket season, and have been campaigning for votes to win the chance to meet their heroes ever since.

Paul Nixon, a supporter of the AEG grassroots campaign, said:

“Kibworth Cricket Club’s local community gave them the support that they needed to win this prize of a lifetime! To watch the England cricket team in action and get to meet their sporting heroes is sure to be an experience that the boys will never forget.”

Duncan Jones, Kibworth Cricket Club’s Under 11s Coach , said:

“As a cricket club & U11 squad of players and parents, we are absolutely delighted that we have won such a fantastic prize and can therefore give the boys and 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to meet their heroes. They have literally been jumping for joy since they heard about winning the most votes.

“It is fantastic that AEG are prepared to get involved with cricket at grassroots level, especially in the current climate, and help bring together the country's elite players with today's young cricketers. If Tuesday is the spark that inspires just one young cricketer to go all the way and achieve their personal cricketing goal, whatever that may be, then AEG can be very proud of their contribution.”

The prize has been organised by Super Skills Travel and is part of AEG’s ongoing commitment to support grassroots sports in the UK, which began by supporting rugby in early 2011 and has now expanded into supporting cricket this year.

By the end of 2012, more than 2,500 kits will have been supplied to grassroots cricket and rugby teams in the UK and Ireland. 150 grassroots teams have been provided with AEG washing machines to keep these kits in pristine condition and ultimate winners have met and trained with their sporting heroes.

Lancashire, Leeds/Bradford MCCU and Unicorns all-rounder Luis Reece is the early leader of the Cricket World Most Valuable Player Overall Ratings. With the early rounds of the 2013 club cricket season completed and most players, at least in the northern leagues, having played the minimum number of three matches to qualify for an appearance in the ratings, the 22 year-old has emerged as the stand-out player.
Manningham Mills are the new leaders of the JCT 600 Bradford League First Division after gaining maximum points as they beat Baildon by 88 runs at Scotchman Road. Opener Adal Islam was top scorer against his old club with 80 not out in Mills' formidable total of 264-5.
Jonny Moxon, son of Yorkshire's Director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon, played a key role with his pace bowling in York’s seven home win against Doncaster Town. Opener Simon Widdup and James Stuart put together a third wicket stand of 147 as Doncaster totalled 221-8 with Widdup hitting 11 fours and two sixes in his 101 while Stuart struck seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 71, Moxon taking 4-34.
In scenes reminiscent of 2012, the entire programme in the North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier and First Divisions was washed out this weekend. The lack of action means that Haverigg (61), Furness (54) and Cleator (50) lead the way at the top of the Premier Division while in the First Division, Egremont are on top with 63 points, Cletaor II are six points behind and Cockermouth II have 54 points in third place.
There were no positive results in the opening weekend of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League but Totteridge Milhillians sit on top of the table with 17 points. Old Finchleians come next with 16 and St Albans are third with 11.
Teddington and Finchley top the early 2013 Middlesex ECB Premier League after winning their opening matches against Richmond and Eastcote. Eastcote were subsequently docked 10 points for fielding an understrength team, which nevertheless only went down by one wicket.
