Somerset bowler Steve Kirby has suffered a foot injury while playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against Nottinghamshire in Abu Dhabi.

He took a blow to the left foot while batting on the opening day and did not feature in the second day's play of the curtain-raiser to the county season.

He will now return to the UK and his place in the MCC squad for the Emirates Airline Twenty20 Trophy has been taken by MCC Young Cricketer Paul Muchall.

Nottinghamshire closed the opening day of the match on 86 for eight in reply to MCC's 218 all out, in which Dawid Malan top scored with 71.

Kirby had figures of five for 29 at stumps.
