Lancashire 147-9 (McLaren 77) by 11 runs
North Group, Natwest T20 Blast, Northampton

Richard Gleeson and Rory Kleinveldt picked three wickets apiece as Northamptonshire restricted Lancashire to 147 for nine in a chase of 159 runs despite a blistering 77 run knock from Ryan McLaren to win the North Group Natwest T20 Blast by 11 runs.

Lancashire won the toss and decided to bowl first. Adam Rossington (29) dominated the first four overs with five boundaries and a six to take Northamptonshire to 38 for naught in four overs.

Junaid Khan (1-21) provided the initial breakthrough when he removed Rossington in the fifth over while Ben Duckett (0) had another failure as Northamptonshire ended the powerplay at 42 for two.

Richard Levi (71), who started the innings cautiously soon exploded as he struck three boundaries and a six in the 16th over to complete his half-century.

Alex Wakely (35 not out) struggled to get going and had a strike-rate of under 100 which hampered their progress a bit as Northamptonshire managed 158 for four in the 20 overs.

In the chase, Kleinveldt (3-16) and Gleeson (3-29) picked two wickets each inside the first five overs as they were reduced to 25 for five in the sixth over.

Dane Vilas (40) and Ryan McLaren (77) added 91 runs for the sixth wicket to provide some respite for Lancashire but once again Gleeson and Kleinveldt bowled well in the end overs to keep them down to 147 for nine in the 20 overs. Kleinveldt was awarded the player of the match for his splendid spell.
