After Rory Kleinveldt and Richard Gleeson picked three wickets apiece to dismiss Worcestershire for 158 runs, Northamptonshire went on to chase the target in 17.4 overs with seven wickets in hand to win the North Group Natwest T20 Blast clash at County Ground.
Northamptonshire won the toss and decided to bowl first. Gleeson (3-12) dealt early blows by dismissing Joe Clarke (8), Ben Cox (2) and John Hastings (0) inside the powerplay.
Daryl Mitchell (32) held one end up but the decisive knocks came from Mitchell Santner (37) and Brett D'Oliveira (52) to take score past the 100-run mark by the 14th over.
A late nine cameo from Ed Barnard (17) pushed Worcestershire total to 158 runs before they were bowled out in the final delivery of the innings.
Northamptonshire looked in no trouble during the chase with Richard Levi (47) and Adam Rossington (42) added 83 runs off 41 deliveries that set a solid platform.
Even though, both the set batsmen along with Ben Duckett (0) fell in a span of 10 runs, the chase was completed in 17.4 overs with seven wickets in hand following unbeaten knocks from Alex Wakely (46 not out) and Rob Keogh (22 not out).
Northamptonshire rise to the second position in North Group with the win while Worcestershire at at eighth.
