Kolkata Knight Riders 169-4 (Pathan 47no) beat
Deccan Chargers 149-6 (Dhawan 54) by 20 runs
Indian Premier League 2011, Hyderabad
The Kolkata Knight Riders hit the top of the Indian Premier League 2011 table with a 20-run victory over the Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad.
Yusuf Pathan benefited from being dropped three times on his way to 47 not out to help the Knight Riders post a score of 169 for four before the Deccan Chargers closed on 149 for six in reply.
Pathan hammered three fours and three sixes to build on the foundations laid by Jacques Kallis (30), Gautam Gambhir (35) and Manoj Tiwary (33).
There was a wicket apiece for Daniel Christian, Dale Steyn, Pragyan Ojha and Amit Mishrabut they had, however, conceded too many runs.
The Chargers made a good start through openmers Sunny Sohal (26) and Shikhar Dhawan (54 in 56 balls) but began to lose their way when Sohal and captain Kumar Sangakkara fell to Iqbal Abdulla in the same over.
Rajat Bhatia (2-26) then dismissed both Cameron White (13) and Christian (1) and the key dismissal was that of Dhawan, who was bowled by Kallis.
Dwaraka Ravi Teja hit a valiant 30 in 22 balls but it wasn't enough and he departed when Brett Lee disturbed his stumps, the result meaning that the Chargers' poor form at home continues and they now have a mountain to climb to reach the play-offs.
