India's injury list has lengthened after opening batsman Gautam Gambhir was ruled out of the One-Day International tri-series in Sri Lanka with a groin strain and he has been replaced by Virat Kohli.

Gambhir joins fellow opener Virender Sehwag and fast bowler Zaheer Khan on the sidelines and he is set to return home to rest ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, which gets underway later this month.

"Gautam Gambhir has strained his groin muscle and has been advised rest for ten days," a BCCI statement read.

Some hours later, the Indian board confirmed that Delhi batsman Kohli, who has played five One-Day Internationals scoring one half-century, would be replacing Gambhir, travelling to Sri Lanka as soon as possible.

"The All India Selection Committee has decided to send Virat Kohli as the replacement batsman to Sri Lanka for the tri-series. Kohli will join the team at the earliest."

India play New Zealand tomorrow (11th September) and then Sri Lanka on 12th September ahead of Monday's final. Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 97 runs in the tournament opener.
