Over the last two weeks the Indoor Cricket Centre at Edgbaston has played host to the Lady Taverners Indoor Under 13 and 15 Girls County Championships.
The 6-a-side events are played annually with the County winners going forward to the regional finals, and hopefully the Nationals at Lord's in June.
Day One saw the Under 13s event with nine schools represented, who all played three games against other schools from around the county.
After a hard-fought series of games, Rugby High School and Tudor Grange eventually won through to the final which was an excellent exhibition of cricket that further demonstrated the rising standard within the girls game.
Tudor Grange started as favourites having won the County U13 girls final in the summer. However, an excellent all-round team performance from Rugby High saw them run out as winners. They will now move on to represent the County in the Regional Finals, which will be played at Edgbaston towards the end of April.
Day Two brought the Under 15 Girls to Edgbaston and another excellent day of cricket. Again the day saw a good representation of schools from across the county with not only Birmingham based schools, but also the likes of Rugby High and Stratford Grammar.
Tudor Grange emerged from the group stages with a 100% record to move swiftly into final. The other half of the draw saw a three-way tie at the end of the group stages and thus a bowl off between Camphill, Rugby and Kings Norton. After much tension and a lot of nervous excitement Kings Norton won through to the final.
Batting first in the final, Kings Norton played well against a good Tudor Grange bowling attack and posted 84 from their 8 overs. But, the Tudor Grange batters started brilliant and ran home winners with 2 overs to spare. Tudor Grange now go forward to represent the county in the Regional Finals.
