Lancashire Lightning Go Green For Macmillan
The Red Rose County take on their White Rose rivals in the Friends Life t20 this Friday (10 June) but the team’s traditional red shirts will be missing.
Instead, to raise awareness for LCCC’s official charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support, the players will be wearing special edition green shirts and caps.
This will be the first time that Lancashire have changed from their red and blue colours for a t20 game and the Club are encouraging the bumper 10,000 crowd to reflect this change and wear green to the event.
The 12-month partnership aims to raise £20,000 for Macmillan. 30 volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Support will be on hand for a bucket collection around the ground, and the signed, match-worn shirts will be auctioned off at a later date with profits going to the charity which provides support and guidance to those people living with cancer.
Lancashire Lightning Captain Glen Chapple said: “We’re proud to be wearing Macmillan colours for the biggest game at Old Trafford this season. The players are happy to raise awareness for a charity which does such important work in the North West and we can’t wait to see Old Trafford turn green for the occasion!”
Louise Stimson, Area Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are thrilled that Lancashire have chosen to reflect our partnership in this way. The match is televised and we’re sure that the green shirts will be a huge talking point. Hopefully everyone will come away from the match understanding the Macmillan ambition: to improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer.”
