Lancashire Ready For Durham Showdown

All the attention may be on Sussex V Yorkshire this week, but it could be the County Championship match between Lancashire and Durham at Blackpool which captures the headlines. Both clubs know an outright win will see them continue on in their bid for Championship honours, but a loss will signal the end of their title race.

The corresponding fixture last season was badly affected by the weather, resulting in a predictable draw after the fourth day was abandoned after monsoonal conditions. So Lancashire fans and the Blackpool faithful will be hoping the weather is set fair and spectators will be treated to a classic encounter.

These sides know each other very well, as this fixture will be the ninth time the two have played each other since March of this year (4 times during the pre season, 4 times in other competitions).

Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson has named the same 12-man squad which completed the Kent fixture last Friday in Canterbury. Muttiah Muralitharan has now finished his stint with Lancashire and has returned to Sri Lanka for treatment on his injured Bicep.

Stuart Law was rested from both Pro40 League matches over the weekend due to a finger injury sustained against Kent, but showed no signs of discomfort during training this morning.

Batsman Mal Loye is still unavailable with an ongoing back injury, although the Medical Team is hopefully he will be selected in the squad to play Warwickshire at Old Trafford starting on Tuesday.
