As part of its Centenary Celebration, Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club in Victoria, Australia, is auctioning one of cricket’s greatest prizes – one of the last four bats signed by Australia’s most famous cricketer, Sir Donald Bradman.
The bat comes framed and with a certificate of authentication from another sporting legend - 500-game Australian Football League coach Kevin Sheedy. At the time of signing the bats, Sir Donald told Kevin these would be the last bats he would ever sign because his hand was now too unsteady to complete his famous copperplate autograph to his high standards. Kevin had visited Sir Donald just months before he died. The other bats have already been raffled or auctioned.
So this bat is the last one available to the public.
This is a great opportunity for an individual to own an amazing piece of cricket history. Equally it is an opportunity for a cricket or other sporting club to buy into the raffle and if successful raffle or auction the bat again as its own fund-raiser.
Auction on ebay to coincide with the Centenary Dinner on February 26th.
