Latest Results From Durham CCC’s Tour To South Africa

The Durham squad, which is currently on pre season tour in South Africa have won all three of the matches they have played so far.

Their first match saw them play the Scorpions at Stellenbosch. The Durham side set the Scorpions a target of 190 which they achieved with stellar performances from Gordon Muchall and new signing Will Smith. The bowling accolades were evenly spread throughout the team as they restricted the opposition to just 130.

The Durham squad was then split evenly into two teams who then faced two sides from Lancashire County Cricket Club in two matches that were played side by side at Bellville CC.

In the first match Lancashire declared on 284-5 in their first innings and recorded 167-2 in their second innings. Durham responded with a first innings score of 141-3d and then secured a six wicket victory after hitting 311-5. Once again, with the bowling plaudits evenly spread amongst the team it was the batting of Gordon Muchall, Garry Park and Kyle Coetzer who pushed the team to victory.

In the second match Lancashire posted totals of 271 and 146, with Neil Killeen and Callum Thorp each taking three wickets. Durham’s batting line up scored 267 in their first innings and followed that with 150-4 to win the match. Once again, Dale Benkenstein led from the front scoring 60 in the first innings and was well supported by Development player Uzair Mahomed (70). Phil Mustard (80*) and Callum Thorp (55) were the stars of the second innings.

Durham Dynamos first competitive home match is on Sunday 29 April when they face Derbyshire Phantoms in the Friends Provident Trophy. Play starts at 10.45am.
