Laxman Set For Lancashire Debut Against Hampshire

VVS Laxman makes his Lancashire debut tomorrow as Hampshire arrive at Old Trafford for the next round of the LV County Championship. The Indian batsman comes in as a replacement for Brad Hodge who has been called back home to Australia for the international team training camp ahead of the ICC twenty20 World Cup.

Muttiah Muralitharan, the Club’s other overseas player also departs for the ICC twenty20 World Cup this week too; the Sri Lankan bowler will round up his fourth season with Lancashire following the match but before that, he will go head to head with the bowler who heads the world rankings in Test wickets; Australia and Hampshire’s Shane Warne. Just 8 wickets separate the two in the Test rankings and both will be keen to make their mark.

Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson has announced a 13-man squad with a couple of necessary changes: Andrew Flintoff will be absent as he is back on England duty and Brad Hodge has left for Australian international duty. On the injury front, Mal Loye is improving but still absent as he recovers from a back spasm.
