Leicestershire Name David Smith As New Chief Executive

Leicestershire have named former Warwickshire player David Smith as their new Chief Executive.

Smith, 51, succeeds Paul Maylard-Mason, who is leaving to pursue his own business interests.

Smith is currently the chairman of the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Board and served nine years on the Warwickshire committee.

Smith takes up the post on January 2nd, and he said, "“This is a tremendous challenge for me and a great opportunity to build on the good work undertaken by the club over the last couple of years.

“With the widening gap in finances between the large Test match clubs and the smaller clubs, Leicestershire face a continuous challenge to develop stable and diverse income to underpin the club’s future development."

Leicestershire chairman Neil Davidson added, “David Smith brings a rare set of credentials to the post: a successful playing career at first-class level, experience of cricket administration and a successful business career in a highly relevant industry.

“He is passionate about the game and, in particular, Leicestershire cricket, from grass roots to senior level.”
