18-year-old Luke Wells, the son of former club captain Alan, has signed a three-year summer contract at Sussex, which will keep him at Hove until the end of the 2012 season.
Wells is currently studying at Loughborough University and has worked his way through youth squads at Sussex and has been rewarded with his first contract.
Luke Wells said: “I am obviously very excited about this fantastic opportunity that I have been given as it is what I have been striving for since I started playing the game. I realise that this is the first stepping stone on to bigger things and the real work starts from here on in.”
Mark Davis, Sussex CCC Club Coach, added: “Luke is a young cricketer full of potential and talent. It’s exciting for both him and the club and we look forward to him joining the squad next summer. Luke impressed in the Academy and Second XI this year – scoring a great hundred, which is a fantastic achievement for someone so young. We’re hopeful that he’ll kick on and become the player that we know he can be.”
The left-hander scored his maiden century this season in second XI cricket.
