Wayne Madsen has been rewarded for making an immediate impact with Derbyshire by being handed a two-year contract.

South African Madsen has scored two first-class centuries since arriving at Derbyshire earlier in the year, hitting 170 not out against Gloucestershire and 108 not out against Surrey.

Derbyshire Head of Cricket John Morris explained: “Since Wayne came into the team he has done exceptionally well and he has shown the priceless ability to reach three figures at the top of the order.

“We are delighted to have him at Derbyshire County Cricket Club and he deserves this opportunity to become a full time professional county cricketer.”
