Lancashire have announced the signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Farveez Maharoof as their overseas player for the 2011 county season.
Maharoof, 26, will be available for the entire season and has played in 20 Test matches and 91 One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka, as well as representing the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.
He returned a hat-trick in the Asia Cup against India in 2010 and has taken more than 100 ODI wickets.
"Farveez is a very experienced cricketer and is still relatively young. He’s shown a real desire to come and play for us this coming season and we look forward to welcoming him on board," Cricket Director Mike Watkinson said.
Head Coach Peter Moores added: "Farveez has a track record of getting important runs and picking up vital wickets. He’s available to us for the full season and will be a competitive addition to our squad."
Maharoof said: "I am really looking to playing for such a great club like Lancashire and excited by the challenge of contributing towards a successful season.
"I’ve had a good domestic season in Sri Lanka and I believe a season of county cricket will be a fantastic learning experience that will help me develop as a player."
