Mal Loye Bowled Over By Fundraiser

Lancashire County Cricket Club sponsor, Daniel Thwaites, has left Red Rose and England hero Mal Loye hit for six – after presenting him with a cheque for £10,500 for supporting his testimonial year.

The cheque was handed over after the War of the Roses grudge match between Lancashire Lightning and Yorkshire Carnegie.

The northern brewer had arranged a gala dinner event at Old Trafford to show their appreciation for the batsman, who was granted a benefit by the club this season.

LCCC team mates, including last year’s testimonial recipient Stuart Law, and Gary Keedy were at the dinner, along with over 500 guests to help raise the bumper funds for Mal.

At the dinner, the Thwaites team secured top auction lots, including a signed Owen Hargreaves shirt, a match cricket ball signed by Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan and one of Freddie Flintoff’s bats.

Thwaites brands marketing director, Lee Williams, who handed over the cheque said: “We were thrilled to sponsor Mal’s benefit dinner – it was such a successful and enjoyable night for all involved. Mal has been a great servant to both Lancashire CCC and top class English cricket, and the fantastic amount raised is testament to the great esteem in which he is held by everybody associated with the sport.

“Thwaites has been a supporter of grass roots cricket in Lancashire and supported LCCC for over a decade with our beer supply agreement and annual testimonial dinners. Our contract to become LCCC’s official sponsor, with our Lancaster Bomber brand emblazoned on the front of the famous shirts, has further cemented our strong relationship with the club.”

Mal Loye said: “As well as providing vital funding throughout county cricket at all levels, Daniel Thwaites backs the first team with the shirt sponsorship deal and also make this fantastic gesture of using their name and reputation to make each benefit year a real success – we are all very grateful for that.”
