Marauders Win Low-Scoring Thriller
The summer league resumed with the Marauders CC winning a low-scoring thriller against Marsa CC to take 13 points from the encounter.
Marsa batted first and had a huge fright thanks to great bowling from Paul Bradley and Ed Manning who took a couple wickets each and had Marsa four wickets down for seven runs.
This opening spell of bowling most likely helped in the final result of the game. Mark G Sacco (17) and Andrew Naudi (26) rebuilt the innings for the Marsa team and both retired after facing 30 balls.
Mathew White blasted 25 from 19 balls which included two boundaries although unusually there were only three boundaries in the whole innings - the other was hit by Naudi.
The Marsa team totalled 102 runs from their overs, a very gettable score. For the Marauders, Bradley ended with three wickets while Mike Caruana was another wicket-taker with three.
The run chase did not start as well as the Marauders would have liked, having Phil Gibbs run out from the second ball of the innings. Aled Griffiths and Owen Jones shortly followed and the Marauders were on the back foot.
Sean Byrne (24 runs with one six) and Garrett Kampff (16 runs with two fours) brought some stability to the batting and both managed to retire before Dean Arnold found the boundary on two occasions on his way to 13.
Ed Manning was run out by a good piece of fielding from the bowler Derek Ali who ran picked up the ball, turned round and hit the stumps direct which left Manning stranded.
This brought together Mike Caruana (16) and Paul Bradley (11), needing 24 runs from five overs. It took them until the end of the 19th over for Bradley to square cut the ball to the boundary which gave the Marauders their first win of the season.
Marauders earned thirteen points for the victory while Marsa earned one point.
Next Saturday the CRIC HQ MCA Summer league continues with the Marsa C.C playing Krishna C.C
