Marsa Find Catalunya Tough Challengers

Marsa CC met the touring Catalunyan national team this weekend and ranked their opponents among the best sides they have ever played.

On Friday, a Twenty20 game was played where the Catalunyan team batted first and made a reasonable score of 154 runs.

Their main scorers were M.Bashrat (35), T.Kazim (29), A.Zia (26) and A.Shakcor (23) while for Marsa Nowell Khosla took three wickets, Haroon Majeed and Bikram Arora took two each and Frank Spiteri took one.

Marsa were then bowled out for 82 with only Bikram Arora providing any resistance with 38.

For Catalunya, Z.Haider and N.Ahmed took three wickets each, Asif Khan took two and A.Tanvir one.

On Saturday, in a 40-over game, the visitors batted first and put up a very challenging score of 259 runs. A. Khan top scored with 69, Nisal Ahmed made 66 and T.Kazem made 46 in the run-feast.

For Marsa, Bikram Arora took four wickets, Sarfraz Ali three while Haroon Majeed and Ram Singh took a wicket each.

The run chase plenty of starts from the Marsa team. Arora hit 32, Haroon Majeed 24 and Simon Lavendar 22 while both Nowell Khosla and RAM Singh hit 20.

Unfortunately none of them went on to a big score and the home team finished with 190 runs. For the visitors Tanvir Ahmed, Z.Haider and M.Khan took two wickets each while M.Bashrat, Nesal Ahmed and Asif Khan took a wicket each.

On Sunday, the final game was played and both teams put in their best batting displays of the series. The Cataluyians batted first again and had two centurions, A.Khan who made 121 which included 13 fours and four sixes and M.Asif who made 140 runs including 14 fours and seven sixes.

The team total at the end of their 40 overs was 355 runs. For Marsa Haroon Majeed took two wickets, as Zunair Raja and Mike Caruana took a wicket each.

The Marsa batting was led by Nowell Khosla who played a brilliant innings and was unfortunate not to make a century, falling two runs short in an innings which included 11 fours and a six.

John Callus supported him well with 36 and Bikram Arora made 48. The Marsa team total was a gallant 250 runs.

Tanvir Ahmed took three wickets and Mohsin took two for the visitors as Catalunya won the series 3-0.

The coming weekend Marsa take on new touring team The Emporers CC in a two game series.
