New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin will not be arriving to take on an overseas-player role with Essex as scheduled due to problems processing his visa.
In addition, the Icelandic volcano situation, which has grounded thousands of flights into and out of the United Kingdom since Thursday (15th April) has compounded Martin's situation.
"It’s disappointing for both ourselves and the player but unfortunately, we can’t do anything about the situation. But we have to put that aside; we are looking forward to a good game with Lancashire and we go into that match full of self-belief," first-team coach Paul Grayson said.
Martin was due to deputise for Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, whose return to Essex has been delayed due to his involvement in the RBS Pentangular One-Day Cup.
