Australians Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson and James Faulkner were among the big winners as the auction for IPL 2013 took place in Chennai. Maxwell fetched the biggest amount of the day when he was sold for $1 million (five times his base price) to Mumbai Indians. Faulkner and Richardson also fetched more than expected, with the former selling for $400,000 to Rajasthan Royals and Richardson going to Pune Warriors for an incredible $700,000. Nathan Coulter-Nile also sold for $450,000 to Mumbai Indians.

Fellow Australians Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Phil Hughes all went for their base prices, while Dirk Nannes went to Chennai Super Kings for $600,000 and Luke Pomersbach to Kings XI Punjab for $300,000.

Away from Australia, Indians RP Singh ($400,000 to Royal Challengers Bangalore); Abhishek Nayar ($675,000 to Pune Warriors); Jaydev Unadkat ($525,000 to Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Manpreet Gony ($500,000 to Kings XI Punjab) all sold for several times their base prices.

Chris Morris and Sachithra Senanayake also fetched considerably more than expected, with the South African exceeding his reserve of $20,000 to sell for $625,000 to Chennai Super Kings and Senanayake becoming Kolkata Knight Riders’ for $625,000.

Among those that went unsold were internationals Matthew Wade, Darren Bravo, Dinesh Chandimal, Vernon Philander and Rangana Herath.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will take their place in the Indian Premier League 2013 play-offs after beating Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in the final group game of the season. Kolkata made 130 for seven and although Sunrisers raced to 100 for two, it needed an unbeaten 17 in 12 balls from Darren Sammy to get them over the line with seven balls to spare.
Pune Warriors condemned Delhi Daredevils to finishing at the bottom of the Indian Premier League 2013 table with a comprehensive 38-run win in Gahunje. For the second match in a row, they produced a strong batting performance, Aaron Finch hitting 52 as they racked up 172 for five and Delhi managed to reach just 134 for nine in reply.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has concluded its emergency meeting to discuss the fallout of the spot-fixing controversy that has rocked the Indian Premier League this week. Three Rajasthan Royals players - Shanthakumuran Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila - were arrested by Delhi police and suspended by the BCCI as investigations into their involvement in spot-fixing continues.
