The opening game of the 2011 county season saw a strong MCC side defeat reigning LV= County Championship winners Nottinghamshire by 174 runs in Abu Dhabi. Scorecard

Twice Nottinghamshire's top order failed to fire in the fixture held under lights in Abu Dhabi and they were made to pay as they suffered defeat inside three days.

The MCC were dismissed for 218 batting first as Dawid Malan top scored with 71; both Luke Fletcher and Samit Patel returning four wickets.

Steve Kirby then returned five for 29 and Hamid Hassan four for 45 as Nottinghamshire were rolled for just 108 - an innings in which only four players reached double figures.

106 from Rahul Dravid, and support from Stephen Peters (57), Stephen Moore (61) and Steven Davies (64) helped the MCC push on to 357 all out in their second innings and sert Nottinghamshire a victory target of 468 and they were quickly in trouble at 21 for four.

They rallied thanks to half-centuries from Ali Brown (55), Chris Read (51), Stephen Mullaney (62) and Paul Franks (73) before succumbing to the inevitable.

Hassan and Toby Roland-Jones both returned three wickets.
