Craig McMillan has been appointed as New Zealand's batting coach for their upcoming tour of the West Indies.
McMillan represented New Zealand between 1995 and 2007 and has subsequenty spent time working with the coaching setup.
"We had a number of strong applicants from New Zealand and abroad, but overall we felt that Craig was the best fit for the role," said New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Head of Cricket Lindsey Crocker.
"Apart from being a former player himself, Craig’s worked with Canterbury Cricket and also spent some time in the Black Caps camp.
"His commentary work has also given him extensive knowledge of both the Black Caps and West Indies squads and those qualities placed him ahead of the other candidates."
A full-time appointment will be made following the tour of the West Indies.
New Zealand head to the Caribbean to play three Tests and two Twenty20 Internationals, arriving later this month.
