Melbourne Town CC To Take On The MCC

In celebration of their 150th anniversary, Melbourne Town Cricket Club are welcoming the world famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to the cricket ground in Cockshut Lane on Sunday 31st July. Unusually in these days, the match is a day game starting at 11am.

The MCC team is made up of former county cricketers and current Derbyshire Premier League cricketers, many of whom will be making a long journey to the ground to play in the match.

The MTCC squad has been chosen and the final 11 will be selected in the week before the game. The team will be going all out to give the MCC a match and ultimately, we hope, victory.

We have been very lucky to secure a major sponsor for the game - thanks to Chris and Carol Icke from Icke Fitness at Wilson. Additional support has come from the East Midlands Airport and our local Village Voice.

On site there will be catering, a licensed bar, a bouncy castle and the chance to buy assorted MTCC souvenirs. Additionally, we will be raffling a cricket bat signed by the whole Derbyshire County team.

Come along for some or all of the day, park the car and get the picnic out. The Town Band are playing during the lunch interval and our young kwik cricketers will be playing during the tea interval.

I hope to see you there, entry to the match is free but a souvenir programme is currently on sale at the Welcome Cafe and from MTCC cricketers.
