Ajantha Mendis has made a quicker than expected recovery from an ankle injury and has joined up with the Sri Lanka squad which is in Bangladesh.
The spinner was expected to be out of action for both Tests but he has recovered from soft tissue damage picked up in a domestic match.
"My ankle is alright now as I am feeling no pain," Mendis said.
He is expected to play in the second Test in Chittagong which begins on January 3rd with Rangana Herath, called up as his replacement, likely to miss out.
Sri Lanka lead Bangladesh by 406 runs in the first Test after day three - Monday was a rest day due to local elections.
