Mitre Wish Shane Good Luck For His 700th Milestone

The battle for the Ashes might be over but there is still the small matter of cricketing history to be made during the Fourth Ashes Test at the MCG in Melbourne. Thanks to a five wicket haul in Perth, the King of Spin, Shane Warne, sits on 699 Test wickets – just one short of becoming the first player in history to pass the 700 mark.

Warne currently heads the all-time list of wicket takers, ahead of legends like Muttiah Muralitharan, Courtney Walsh, and his own Ashes team-mate Glen McGrath, and to make sure that he reaches the milestone in style, his sponsors Mitre have rewarded him with a pair of gold Zooter boots in recognition of the landmark achievement.

Flown in specially from the UK for the Fourth Test, the Mitre Golden Boots will give Warne a further boost as he continues in his rich vein of form, already having taken 14 wickets in the five Test series – including the scalp of Monty Panesar in Perth which reclaimed the Ashes for Australia.

Shane Warne commented on the milestone by saying:

“It is fantastic for the team to have won back the Ashes in Perth with such an emphatic victory, and I’m hoping that I can continue the celebrations by claiming my 700th wicket at my home ground in Melbourne. It is great to have been recognized by my sponsors Mitre in such a way.”

Mitre’s marketing manager Katrina McCreadie commented, “This will be a huge achievement for the greatest spin bowler of all time. We are extremely proud to have Shane as part of the Mitre family.”
