Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif will play no part in the first one-day international of the five-match series against South Africa in Lahore.
He has not recovered sufficiently from the elbow injury that prevented him bowling more than four overs in the second innings of the second test, which Pakistan held on to draw against South Africa last week.
Talat Ali, Pakistan's cricket manager said, "He is required to have more rest to regain full fitness."
Asif may have further problems, as a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official indicated that Asif may be disciplined for signing a contract with Surrey without receiving prior permission from the PCB.
