Dean Elgar has been ruled out of the start of South Africa's One-Day International series against Sri Lanka with a knee injury and has been replaced in the squad for the first two matches by all-rounder Albie Morkel.
Elgar had been poised to make his ODI debut - along with Rory Kleinveldt - before being sidelined with the injury he picked up playing for the Chevrolet Knights against the Cape Cobras.
Elgar's injury could require surgery which may rule him out of the rest of the season.
Morkel is himself returning from an injury he picked up during the Champions League playing for the Chennai Super Kings but scored a century in a recent first-class match for the Titans.
He last played an ODI for South Africa against Pakistan in November.
South Africa ODI squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla (vice-captain), Johan Botha, JP Duminy, Francois du Plessis, Jacques Kallis, Rory Kleinveldt, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe
