Mashrafe Mortaza has been preferred to Tamim Iqbal to lead Bangladesh in their upcoming Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka.
Regular captain Mushfiqur Rahim was ruled out when the squad was named earlier this week. That was after he sustained a fractured finger during the drawn second Test in Chittagong. Abdur Razzak was also declared unavailable after injuring himself during the match.
Mortaza has captained Bangladesh before, but his injury-prone nature has meant that those spells have been short-lived. He, reportedly because of his previous experience, has been preferred to Tamim, who has been named as his deputy.
The first of two Twenty20 Internationals is in Chittagong on Wednesday, with the second following two days later at the same venue.
Bangladesh T20I squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (captain), Tamim Iqbal (vice-captain), Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mithun Ali, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Sohag Gazi, Arafat Sunny, Farhad Reza, Rubel Hossain, Al-Amin Hossain.
