All-rounder Steven Mullaney has signed a two-year contract to play for Nottinghamshire just 24 hours after it was announced that he was being released by Lancashire.
He had rejected a similar two-year deal at Old Trafford but moves to Trent Bridge, where Director of Cricket Mick Newell believes he will fit nicely into the One-Day side.
“The main principle of our recruitment has been to find talented young cricketers who are ready to play in the first team and Steven fits that billing," he said.
“He was impressive when he played against us in the Twenty20 Cup this season and he is able to bat at six or seven and offers a good medium-pace bowling option.
“I see him fitting into our one day side but he’ll be keen to show that he can play a part in the four-day game as well.
“He hasn’t played as much cricket at Lancashire as he would have liked but they were keen to keep him which shows the regard in which he was held at Old Trafford.”
Mullaney played in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup for England alongside Nottinghamshire's other recent signing Graeme White.
