Fast bowler Munaf Patel has been added to India's squad for the remainder of the One-Day International tri-series in Sri Lanka, just two days after they were beaten by 200 runs in their opening match against New Zealand.

Patel has played 43 One-Day Internationals since making his debut against England in Margao in 2006, taking 47 wickets but hasn't played an ODI since November, when he bowled four overs against Australia in a six-wicket defeat in Guwahati.

"Munaf Patel is joining the Indian team in Sri Lanka as an additional member of the squad. He will reach Dambulla on Friday,” a statement from the Indian board (BCCI) read.

India next play hosts Sri Lanka on Monday 16th August, with Patel expected to be available for selection. Experienced fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been forced to miss the series due to injury, leaving the likes of Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra and Abhimanyu Mithun to lead the attack.

India will play both sides again before the final on 28th August.

India ODI squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain). Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha, Munaf Patel, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Saurabh Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh
