Sussex CCC legend Mushtaq Ahmed will be taking part in his Twenty20 testimonial match at The County Ground, Hove, on Sunday 30th May.

The game will see a Sussex Sharks XI pit their wits against Mushtaq’s All Star XI, chosen from some of the players who have played with and taken inspiration from Mushy. Alongside the man himself, Azhar Mahmood and Saqlain Mushtaq, who between them have played 70 Tests for Pakistan, and New Zealand International Lou Vincent, who has over 100 ODI appearances to his name, are the first to confirm their participation in the fixture. Former Sussex seamer Mohammed Akram, another Pakistan International is also turning out for the Mushy XI.

That won’t be the only cricketing action on offer on the day though, as before Mushy’s XI get the chance to topple Sussex on their own patch, another Sussex Sharks XI will take on a Sussex Cricket League XI, a side chosen from the some of the best club players in the county, as a prelude to Mushy’s main event.

There is more than just pride at stake though, as Sussex Sharks will begin their defence of the Friends Provident t20 Trophy two days later whilst the Sussex Cricket League XI will be eager to show they are no pushovers and look to get one over their opponents.

It’s Mushy’s testimonial year in 2010 and the event will be one of many taking place throughout the calendar. The ‘All Star’ XI will be selected by both Mushy himself and Peter Moores. There is plenty of entertainment going on throughout the day and it promises to be a real bank holiday treat for Sussex fans and families alike.

Sussex CCC Chief Executive Dave Brooks admitted he was delighted that Mushtaq’s contribution to the county was being recognised. “Mushy was the spark that lit the Sussex touch paper and set the Club off on the glorious decade. His energy and enthusiasm shone through, and still does today as he supports the Club with coaching for our up and coming spin bowlers, as and when his England commitments allow”, said Dave.

“The day will be a great way for our supporters to show their appreciation to Mushy and all he did for this Club, aswell as watching two top class Twenty20 matches which will help our Sharks tune up as they open the defence of their Friends Provident t20 title.”, he added.

Tickets are on sale for the event now, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, and can be purchased by logging on to www.sussexcricket.co.uk or calling 0844 264 0206. The action begins at 12.30pm with gates opening at 11am. The Mushy match is due to start at 4.30pm.
